Self Image

Self Confident: Body Language & Image

Having confidence to be a student leader on campus can be difficult for our youth. Society has utilized social media and technological advancements to shape the definition of beauty. Our students need to comprehend interpersonal skills, define the effects of body language and believe in their own self image. There are mental and physical aspects to this concept. Students must understand what it means to be professionally dressed, how to speak in a professional manner, and that their unique character is worth sharing with the world.

In life, we are asked to look at ourselves in various ways to fully understand what makes us who we are. Through that path we look to body language, self perception, how we dress, and speaking to others to allow ourselves to define our character. Sometimes those directions are marked as positive and sometimes negative. Your mindset will allow you to grow as a person and professional, but we must be careful about the "walls" that can be built along this journey called life. In the end, looking into the depths of our character will allow for true integrity to shine building confidence and growth.

Directions
1. Read the article "Building Walls."
    a. Write a reflection (7-10 sentences) discussing your perception and ideas regarding the article.

2. Watch the Ted Talk from Thandie Newton: Embracing Otherness; Embracing Myself
Complete the Q&A Assignment regarding the content of the video.

3. If we can understand the walls that are built then further explore the concept of "self," then the development of integrity and a strong character can be established impacting ones future life.

Review the outline regarding the concept of Integrity from John C. Maxwell's fabulous book Developing the Leader Within You.
