Integrity
Evaluation

Integrity has to be one of the most important aspects to developing a student leader. The quality of being honest and making good choices is key to the reputation of an activities program and also to the development of each one of our students. With that being said, we must show our students the power of a positive attitude. There will be good days, bad days, epic days, and even strange days in the lives of our student leaders. We must guide them to find the positive in all that we do. When that mindset takes shape the attitude of a person is healthier and infectious. Finding our own happiness and positivity is integral in developing our young leaders. It is also equally important to have honest conversations with students about the progress they are making. Evaluations, however scripted, allow the student leader to be aware of their actions, quality of work, and growth. If you cannot be honest with your students, how can you ask them to have integrity within their character?

Part I
1. Quarterly evaluations will occur for each student in the leadership program. Students will be evaluated on their job description and work ethic within the class. Individual meetings will occur at lunch with the Activities Director and the ASB President to discuss the evaluation received. Discussion can occur regarding score and how to improve on being a strong leader on our campus with a positive attitude and integrity.
If you would like a copy of job descriptions, the evaluation of the AD and ASB president used, and the set up of lunch time meetings - please email Jill Mortensen at jmortensen@sjcoe.net.

Part II
1. Read the article by Tanya Villar: The Science and Soul of Words
     a. As you read, highlight various points that stand out and that you find interesting. Once you have completed the article, write out (binder paper) the interesting points you found as you read.
     b. Answer the following question (1/2 page): What was the main point/purpose of the article? What was the true message presented?

Experts Wisdom: Life Changing Principles and Transformational Business Strategies from the Go-To Authorities by Debbie Allen
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015K5XZEW?keywords=expert%20wisdom&qid=1444059485&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

2. Watch the short video from Ted Talks that speak about Getting Stuck in the Negative. Listen to the topic and see how this information applies to you as an individual, your cliches at school, your family, friends, our community, and even the nation/world. After you watch the video, answer this question in one simple sentence: Will you see the glass half empty or half full?

Part III
1. Watch the Ted Talk, found by Ellie Waters, on the concept of stress. Answer the following questions: do you believe stress is a positive or negative on the body and mind? How do you handle the stress in your own life? Does the concepts spoken about in the video give you a different perspective on stress in your world?

Part IV - The knowledge of John C. Maxwell
1. Read/review the outline on Positive Change within you as a leader.
2. Read/review the outline on Personal Attitude within you as a leader.

Part V
1. Complete the Reflective Essay
Using the information above write a 2-3 page reflection on the type of student you are and would like to be. Discuss those things you do well and those areas you need to improve to be an even better student/leader/person. Be sure to provide examples and discuss them as they relate to the ideas on your paper. You have almost a full year of leadership knowledge and practice. Let that experience guide you as you write this essay.
