Legacy Leaders 2021-2022
Being a part of the Leadership program at Ripon High School is no easy task. First, to get accepted into the class, a student must go through an interview process accompanied by letters of recommendation, and sometimes a speech in front of the school or the candidate's respective class. The positions are then voted on by the student body to choose the best possible student for the job. No legacy leader has run unopposed all four years of high school, the combined scores of the letters of recommendation and the student votes and interview show that the student body, teachers, coaches, and Mrs. Mortensen trust us with the responsibility of governing and running activities for the school. Once elected, students put in long hours, staying after school or coming in early to make events special and exciting for the student body.
It is an honor to have leadership as a part of our lives. The privilege of being a legacy leader is given to students who have gone through this process and have been accepted into the program all four years of high school. Through leadership we learn life skills and professional development, such as public speaking and professional etiquette. The course is now college prep A-G approved also, meaning it has curriculum appropriate as a college preparatory level class.
Besides being a class and a place where students develop as professionals, leadership is also an environment where the students grow as a family. We all bond and gain knowledge of our job entails at the beginning of the year at Core Camp. Then, throughout the year, the legacies and elders pass our knowledge on to the newer members so they can, in turn, leave their own legacies when they are seniors.
